Walking the Labyrinth
The labyrinth implies a single path and ritual aspects.  Each culture has their own myth attached to the purpose of the labyrinth.  The Tohono O'otam carried it as a symbol of individual, family and tribal birth—the progress through the labyrinth represents the many turns and changes of life, as you acquire knowledge and understanding, upon approach of the center, where you can reflect upon life and finally accept death.

Finland and Sweden labyrinths were part of a universal ritual of pairing young men and women, usually with the young woman in the center.  The Christian labyrinths represented the “Path of Life” with the center symbolizing the reaching of salvation. This particular unicursal labyrinth, termed the Medieval Christian Maze, first appeared in a document dated AD860-62 in the Vatican Library.

It was recreated here on my  property in May, 1996  with rocks hand picked while hiking different creeks and streams in the area, some were gifts brought from people that had been traveling and wanted to participate in the creation.  Everything about the Labyrinth was hand done.  There were between 4 – 10 people that would come and volunteer.  Each rock was walked around before being placed. It has been a powerful source of reflection, meditation and healing for many people in the community.

You are invited to walk the labyrinth. It is an opportunity to visit “life”  from a different perspective.  Thoughts, feelings, people, and your reactions to these on the walk are a reflection of life; so listen carefully and you will gain some wisdom and insight.

We gather the 2nd Saturday of the month from 9am - noon in service and care to maintain the beauty of the labyrinth for your enjoyment.
